Thanks for the article. A few friends and I met your parents at your house in Philly in the 90s. Treating us like long lost friends, your Dad was telling us all about his printing press, a supplement he was taking, polyamory and local radio. He gave us a couple old volumes of the “Aquarian Research” publication and a copy of "Where’s Utopia" which I showed to our local activist group in the Harrisburg Area.
On the topic of self-defense, I’m a survivor of elaborate archetypal initiation, trauma-based conditioning, B-rated street theatre and overt stalking which started in the mid 90’s. I played the wounded bird to find out “who, how and why” and then entered permanent recovery (13 years clean and sober). For future reference, I can offer do’s and dont's with humorous feedback for individuals or groups experiencing interference of the astral archonic and ai-enhanced federal varieties.
I like your analysis on the types of communes. I have visited Twin Oaks, Heathcote, Windspirit and Sirius. A group of us attempted co-housing w/ regular potlucks and a sweat lodge along the Susquehanna River at my friend’s privately owned homestead until He got married. I enjoyed a brief stint with Plenty Int’l Katrina Relief and also attended the lovely Ragweed festival at The Farm. Keep up the good work!
Oh wow that's awesome you met my parents! Sorry to hear about your traumatic past, I can't even imagine. What do you think about communal living, is it still something you're pursuing, and how did those communes feel to you?
Yes, I was visiting my friend who went to Temple and we checked out the A Space that weekend as well. Thanks for your support it gets better one day at at time. My Dad and I own 30 acres in the northern tier of Pennsylvania where I am planting native nut and fruit trees for future food possibly signing on with a Coop to plant out and harvest some type of small scale agroforestry set-up for a retirement plan in 5-7 years. I’m taking a break from communal living and working self-employed but I do like the idea of a Junto or Front Porch Forum to form a viable 3rd narrative solution to the Net Energy Cliff and Technocratic Neo-feudalism ie. resilience as resistance. The communes were interesting and I share the same experience of Twin Oaks. Heathcote was very laid back and small with the School of Living headquarters there at the time. My friend and I almost rented a place there before his Father turned over the house along the River to us. I visited my friend in Amherst and we helped build a cob house for a day at Sirius community, I wish I could have stayed there longer. Windspirit was a trip way out in the high desert north of Tucson where performers for Mother Earth Healing Circus overwintered with small octagonal houses, 1000 fruit and olive trees all fed by an aquifer. We showed up there on a whim with a personal contact and the community welcomed us for a 2 week stint. My gf and I had a 84 Vanagon pop-up. We stayed in their teepees for a few nights while doing work trade in the organic gardens and pruning olive and fruit trees a couple hours a day. Huge outdoor kitchen and a nice community vibe where I taught one of the commune kids to play Djembe for some spare cash. Then we went to Tucson and checked out the Gem Show and a clothing optional Sauna at a private residence. Good times!!
Hello, I read the entire thing from the email today and I wanted to say what a fantastic job you did with such a complex topic. I'll definitely be doing the paid subscription starting soon. Things are temp tight now. But you've been really helpful to me in the past for which I am very grateful. I am super interested to see where this all goes. ✌️
