Millions of people are in hell right now due to benzodiazepine addiction. If you know anyone trying to quit benzos, have them reach out to me.
It turns out that ayahuasca (and specifically Syrian rue, which doesn’t require a trip) is one of the few things that can rapidly fix gaba receptors. More info here. And a bit more info here.
So far I only personally know one person (Oliver) who completely eliminated a week of hell that he usually faces after using clonazepam for a month, thanks to just one dose of Syrian rue. Granted, he was on a low dose of Clonazepam. But now he is guinea-pigging a high dose of xanax to see how easily syrian rue or even any MAOi may help the withdrawal. Results incoming soon! Thanks Oliver for damaging your brain to save others!
What about alcohol withdrawal?
Alcohol withdrawal can be fixed by switching to benzodiazepines. So it makes sense that Syrian rue would also work for alcohol withdrawal, altho I do not have any specific examples of this yet in the real world. Either way, alcohol withdrawal is easily fixable.
As for alcohol cravings, many people are craving alcohol due to parasitic and yeast infections. The cure for this is thyme oil. You can put thyme oil into a gelcap to swallow. Start with just a few drops, or just eat thyme leaves. Then each day increase your dose until around 1mL or one size 000 capsule daily. Taking too much at first can cause herxheimer reactions as the yeast and parasites die off, which can make you feel a bit crazy for a little while.
What is the alternative to benzos tho?
This approach alone may not be suitable for people who are on meds that interact with MAOi drugs or are prone to psychosis or panic attacks, but there are plenty of alternatives. People and especially doctors are just too lazy to try anything so they go for the hardest possible street drugs and then they wonder why everyone gets worse.
The most important thing is meditation and deep sleep. But to even be able to relax you first need to love and re-parent your inner child.
You can also find additional tips here.
Honorable mention goes to muscimol (from amanita mushrooms) which also can repair gaba receptors. The amanita mushrooms themselves can be quite unpredictable but one can try microdosing them. The pure muscimol is predictable.
Some other options include niacin, dmso, mulungu, kava, mega-dosing water-soluble CBD, fasoracetam, and of course loving kindness meditation.
Syrian Rue To Replace Psych Meds In General
My friend Michael Doty (anchorandaperture@innernavigationinstitute.org) is a licensed psychologist who also has a neuropharmacology background. He has found immense benefit in the careful use of Syrian rue to help patients get off other psych meds. Below is from him:
Michael:
For anyone interested, here’s the first half of my 2018 publication on Syrian Rue. This highlights the effects of microdosing on EEG and emotions (as measured by PANAS-X). Very short term, 12 dosing days, but also strong statistical significance in 14/18 measures.
I typically drop the dose of the psych meds gradually (I strongly advocate they work with their prescribers for that). It seems that tapering 2 weeks at a time works well for most people. For example starting dose is 100mg of Pharm, then 2 weeks at 50mg, 2 weeks at 25mg, stop. That tends to be okay but monitoring with their prescriber helps with any difficulties. Since that gets tricky, it’s definitely good to have guidance. I have the plus of some psychopharmacology training before switching career paths to psychotherapy and psychedelic research so 20 years of seeing client’s symptoms helps a lot. Weaning off psych meds can definitely come with deregulation but keeping an eye in the symptoms and how they chance is crucial. I also have my clients (psychedelic assisted or not) do something I call symptom correlation analysis, which is basically just taking note of what is happening internally and externally when experiencing their symptoms. That helps give extra information to monitor change. Anything swinging into manic hypomanic symptoms is a reason to discontinue the rue or space it out rather than take it daily.
Depending on the meds I may not start them on Syrian rue right away. Mushrooms tend to work well unless the client is prone to emotional activation. I haven’t seen any sort of issue with rue + meds (various SSRIs, bupropion, various anxiolytics) but for safety’s sake, I think it’s better to wait til the first med dose drop to start rue.
I use 250mg rue, so it’s threshold MAOI dose for most people. If anxiety is a problem coming off, muscimol works wonders. Since it lasts a long time, I tend to suggest nighttime doses for most people. That seems to help calm the nervous system and all some subconscious processing of related material. If they are drowsy in the mornings or anxiety is particularly bad, we can experiment with morning doses. I find muscimol freebase to be variable in effect, but HCl works wonders at the 1-3mg range. If the muscimol is too much, blue lotus, valerian, and kava are good alternatives and easily accessible.
Depending on the symptoms and nervous system regulation, once the psych meds are discontinued, adding San Pedro seems to be a great mix, especially for the “wired but tired” folks. I have 3 clients who are currently on that mix and the results are stellar (250mg Syrian rue + 500mg for the client who is very sensitive, 250mg + 1-2g for the others)
Personally speaking, I only have 3 months with iboga microdosing (will be cycling that back soon) but the Syrian Rue San Pedro combination feels similar in terms of whole organism regulation and stabilization. I’m not experiencing the same neuromuscular effects as before the first round of iboga so it’s hard to make a good comparison but it feels close…perhaps that I can subjectively notice a change in my wellbeing and that’s not something mushroom or LSD microdosing ever did, aside from migraine relief. It’s also done wonders for reducing my caffeine intake, which in turn has helped my sleep and further balancing of my nervous system. I add in muscimol for pain and sleep and the 3 have me in the best mindset of my life.

Can syrian rue help with delusions?
Interesting story, so I have a friend who was getting beamed up to an alien space ship every time he took tryptamines like shrooms or pharmahuasca (using pure harmalas). It was like his whole human life was a dream and then he realized he was always just a lab rat on some alien space ship. The worst part is that this belief would stay with him often days or weeks later.
I also btw had the same experience once when i went to sleep after vaping dmt. I lived millions of terrifying years on that space ship.
Anyway so recently my friend took Syrian rue instead of the pure harmalas. The rue caused some parasites to come out of him. After that he hasn't had an issue with the space ships.
